How to Prevent Email Viruses

5 Aug

The other day I received an email from the Social Security Administration. This caught my attention as you might imagine, and I double checked to see the return address. It looked legit, but the one thing that just didn’t set well for me was how sparse the email looked overall.

So I went to File >> Info >> Properties in my Outlook 2010 :

Within the email header, I could see the actual address of the sender of the email :

The lesson of this is that even if the sender looks legit, doesn’t mean the email is. If you feel at all suspicious, check out the header information of the sender. Here are a few links to some tutorials on how to locate the header information in your email program:

Things to look for when reviewing your email inbox:

  • Email from family or friends, normally without a subject (but sometimes does have a subject) and the only thing in the body of the email is a URL link. DO NOT CLICK IT! Delete the email!
  • Email from a random person, with a .zip file attached: DO NOT OPEN IT – delete the email!
  • Don’t understand the language of the email? Don’t read it – delete it!
  • Email that appears from a legit source, for example: Your Bank, Facebook, MySpace, etc, DO NOT CLICK THE LINKS IN THE EMAIL! DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHED FILES!!! Delete the email and go to the site manually yourself in the browser. It’s a common scam to “appear” like the “real site” in the return address and through the body of the email. More times than not it’s SPAM.

Keep in mind, email from “friends” or “family” with a hyperlink and very little body text to the email – isn’t necessary from them. Be sure these people include the reason why to click on the link . You could open a new email and respond back to them to confirm the email was legit before clicking the link they provide.

He Loves Me

24 Jul

My husband Clark is an AWESOME Photographer! We just purchased a professional backdrop to use for Photoshoots and video interviews that – amazingly enough we can fit into our small little apartment here. I was the test subject today, let me know what you think :) :

An Unplanned Date

17 Jul

Clark and I have been BUSY this week with work. Especially for Clark yesterday, he didn’t stop moving! He was shipping out orders, buying supplies left and right. The moment he finished was just in time for dinner and we decided to make a quick spontaneous decision to celebrate our weeks success with work and no better place than, the beach :)

We hopped in the car and drove down to Santa Monica Pier:

We had fun walking along the beach and splashing in the waves at night after dinner. For dinner we were going to go to Bubba Gumps, we reserved a spot and everything. The wait was 35min, which wasn’t a big deal because we could walk around the pier. We got down to the very end and we saw Mariasol Mexican Restaurant and just decided to peak our heads in and saw there was only a 5min wait and we could get a table pretty much on the edge of the pier right next to the water! The food was OK, the waiter seemed to be having a bad night… there was a guy with a parrot on his shoulder (literally) who was seated next to us. We had been there already about 15min, he ordered, received his food, ate and paid and left by the time we barely got our ordered meal. So yeah – the food and service wasn’t great, but the location was awesome. We still had fun!

An incredibly romantic night, we can’t wait to do it again! ♥

No Work on Sunday’s!

25 Jun

For the past 9.5 months I have been working full time, more recently – mostly overtime (40+), 7 days a week. I have had the convenience of managing my own hours, meaning I can do 8 hours one day, 10 the next and 6 the following. But regardless, I have had to work in the very least 1-2 hours both Saturday and Sunday too. This has been draining on me. I LOVE my job, I am so grateful for it. It arrived at the most perfect time and has been a luxury to work from home. I have no complaints.

Wonderful news arrived this week when my boss informed me I could officially take Saturdays and Sundays off to help me rejuvenate my spirits and relax. This truly has been an answer to a prayer and I am SO happy! :)

As part of my LDS Faith we believe in not working on Sundays if at all possible. This is so we can dedicate the entire day to worshiping the Lord and spending quality time with our Family without any worldly concerns on the mind or outside distractions. It’s a personal call though (you won’t lose your membership if you work on Sunday). But if you have the choice, than not working should be your first priority. I tried really hard to request the day off, but where in my job I’m the only person in my department – I pretty much had to. So Clark and I prayed about it, and we felt that this is what I needed to do. To move forward in Faith that I would one day be able to have this day off. Be patient, and everything will work out. And it has!!!

This job couldn’t be more perfect. It just gets better and better, I am so lucky! ♥

Have Patience + Hope + Faith, in humility with a charitable heart = God will send you blessings upon blessings!
