Are We Moving?

Update on the status of moving to Texas:

So far the rates for apartments are not falling to the price we need them to be. We’re not giving up hope that one day they will – but until they drop to $800 we’ll be sticking around here and enjoying the beach :)

We plan to call the beginning of each month to check in on where the rates are. Both the Apartment Managers informed me that it all depends on the ‘supply & demand’ but people come and go all the time and the rates just fluctuate depending on how many come in vs. how many leave.

The rates are so close – but not close enough yet.

I’ll for sure write an exciting post informing y’all when they do and when we sign on the lease!

Water Leak

17 Feb

I told Clark this was a definite sign that we needed to go to Texas FOR SURE – but he’s still holding out on the $800 a mo. I don’t blame him, it’s so close anyways. I called the Apartment Complex in Texas this morning and they said it was at $826mo yesterday, but back up to $865 today. They have 20 available Apartments left to lease out with that same layout we liked. We’re not too worried. ;)

Since I took these pictures of our leaking ceiling (just started leaking this morning) – I have upgraded to a bigger pot – and about 1 hour after I did that the sun came out and the water stopped dripping. The long history of this leaking ceiling is that when we arrived back from our TX trip, we received new tenants upstairs above us – and their water moving through the pipes has been louder than we’ve ever heard it before. We called up our Landlord and he was out of town for a week and just arrived back this morning. He’s been working with the Plumber all day today – so hopefully everything will be back to normal… and MUCH quieter :)

It’s times like these where – yeah, it would be nice to be in a not-so-old, not-so-breaking down Apartment… but we’re in an Apartment. We’re safe, we’re clean, we’re out of the pouring rain. And we’re pretty lucky to be so close to moving to a nicer place – but until then, we’re still happy and working hard! :D

Mellow Sunday

8 Feb

My mind is foggy – full of thoughts about Texas, and about how much we love where we live in Cali. The comparison between our apartment here and the ones we found in Texas… there really isn’t any comparison. The Texas Apartments are BY FAR *SO* much better. But, our friends here in Cali, are irreplaceable. Our ward, is phenominal here. It chokes Clark and I up – the thought of leaving our ward and friends. :(

Clark and I have plans to present an offer to our Favorite Apartment in Texas tomorrow. They said the rent would be $906, but could go lower. We will offer to pay $800, and if they accept we’ll sign right away. We decided to go a bit extreme in what they offered to us, and felt that if they grabbed the bait at $800- it would be such a miracle that we’d have to take it – can’t get any better than that for all that we would receive! :)

Again, we’re VERY sad to leave all the people we love. We realize we’ll make friends in TX and come to love our new ward… it’s just so hard to start over.

* Slideshow has been added to my previous post about TX. Pictures of the house we LOVE and plan to purchase in the near future… most likely after we’ve settled ourselves in TX.

Texas Day 3 & 4

5 Feb

First it began with Apartments, now we are thinking home-buying! WOW! What a change of thought at the last minute.

Yesterday we looked and found a couple new Apartments we liked, but nothing compared to our remaining favorite from our find on Monday.

Today we looked at houses – and LOVE this 3 bedroom 2 bathroom rambler for $108,000 – NOT BAD! With the current rates, that would give us about a $900 payment – including taxes.

We have a lot to think about. We have both fallen in love with Texas, and have every good reason to move – but we both realize that it’s a big step. We are going to think seriously about everything for awhile – we’re in no rush to move.

First, we’re going to approach our landlord and see if he could lower our rent. There are a few vacancy’s in our complex, and feel it might be a good time to approach him about that. We might let that be the determining factor. We’ll see. :)
