We Got a New Camera & Lens…

3 Jun

… and we LOVE it! Check these babies out!

We just purchased the Canon 5D Mark II. We are having SO much fun playing with the new camera and new L Series Lens! :)

Before, I was swapping between my Droid Phone’s Camera, My Canon Powershot S60 and our Canon 20D. Now, I think I’ve found a new passion and love using the 5D! I am going to make it a goal to re-do my Photography Portfolio completely.

More awesome pictures coming soon…

“Life is to be enjoyed, not endured.”

“Respect for self is the beginning of cultivating virtue in men & women.”

“Faith in something greater than ourselves enables us to do what we have said we’ll do, to press forward when we are tired or hurt or afraid, to keep going when the challenge seems overwhelming and the course is entirely uncertain.”

The True Kind of Beauty

29 May

If someone were to ask me, what is the one thing I value most that I’ve learned in life -what lesson has had the most meaning to me?

I would reply: True Beauty.

What is true beauty?

  • True beauty lifts your spirits, reflects simply love when one views themself in the mirror.
  • True beauty is not jealous or envious.
  • True beauty isn’t critical, hate, anger or ill-tempered
  • True beauty is peace, kind and gentle towards ones self and for others
  • True beauty is not offended easily
  • True beauty is excited about health – not driven to be thin.
  • True beauty is honest
  • True beauty is eager to find the same [beauty] in others.
  • True beauty finds clothes to feel good in – not to look ‘hot’ in.
  • True beauty puts on make-up to feel good – not to be sexy.
  • True beauty is enhanced by the love and peace of the Gospel, not by attention from others.
  • True beauty is attractive, and helps your spirit glow.
  • True beauty isn’t self-conscious, only self-aware.
  • True beauty is confident
  • True beauty is strong
  • True beauty is pure love in the moment and not waiting for the future.

When I was recovering from Anorexia & Bulimia I received a Priesthood Blessing from my Bishop that stated, “Before you came down to earth, you chose to go through this. “ and now I know why. I feel my mission in life was to find the true meaning of Beauty. It isn’t just about looking good, but loving who you are each moment of every day. By not spending most of your day focusing on how you look – but nourishing your spirit and in doing so – naturally you’ll want to feel good – and therefore you’ll take care of yourself, and God will help with the rest. As long as you’re doing your best, and making your priorities straight (i.e. 1. God 2. Spouse 3. Family 4. Work 5. Self) God will fill in the gaps.

True Beauty is guided by the spirit, NOT mans hunger for a ‘perfect’ body defined by society’s rules – for you’ll NEVER win that way. True Beauty is obtained by Faith and Patience, Hope and Charity alone.

You’ll be SO much happier by going on God’s diet, try it – it’s free and permanent. ;)

My Thoughts on Arizona’s New Immigration Law

24 May

Since I moved to California I have learned a lot more about the Mexican people. How hard they work and how family oriented they are. My love for them has grown and I can understand why people would want to protest this new immigration law.

Imagining their position, living in Mexico where I have heard of a lot of poverty, corrupt government and in some places – really hard living circumstances. If you were in that position – wouldn’t you want a safe place to run to? Wouldn’t you want to provide for your family at any cost? So you can imagine, that with this new law – Arizona is putting bars up, making it more dangerous to cross the border.

The question to ask ourselves here – is why would they do this? Possible answers that come to mind are:

  • To make it harder for drug lords to illegally smuggle dangerous drugs to and from Mexico.
  • Save taxpayers money from illegal immigrants being placed on Medicare, welfare, food stamps
  • Provide more opportunity for poverty stricken (legal) Americans to more likely have a job available for them to help get them off of Welfare

That’s about all for now that comes to mind. The feeling I get and understand from an American point of view, who pays tax dollars, is that it’s nothing against Mexicans as a People. It’s about the fact that America is experiencing a recession. Our money is far beyond limited, crime is unstable and it’s more about saving money at all costs and preventing crime from rising – due to drug smuggling.

If it were possible, I’m sure all borders would be more flexible for passage if it weren’t for the scare of taxes to help support illegal immigrant families and dangerous drugs from being smuggled.

Mexico – we love you. Please don’t be mad. I hope one day we can produce a more friendly border. I’m sure with time and patience, and lots of hope and positive energy put out into the air – we’ll produce that result. Until then, we’re only moving backwards by boycotting and protesting. Let’s give a little more love and understanding, shall we?
