"I am asking that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we 'accentuate the positive.' I am asking that we look a little deeper for the good. . Look for the sunlight through the clouds" -- President Gordon B. Hinckley ("The Continuing Pursuit of Truth," Ensign, Apr. 1986, 2-4).
This term of blogging seems to be spreading around the net and the news like wild fire.
An interesting interview on the Today Show the other day aired about a 4 min interview with Heather Armstrong of Dooce.com , a Mommy Blog that has turned out to be quite beneficial for her. She has become so successful w/ her blog that she’s been able to make a six figure income supporting her entire family. Her husband has even quit his job to help her manage her blog. That’s amazing!
Well, the interview I felt was an unfair representation of Mommy Bloggers. Kathee Lee wasn’t very good at getting a full depiction from Heather of Dooce.com of what a Mommy Blogger is and cut her off more often than not taking nearly the entire 4 min of the interview. Why even bring her on the air if you’re not going to let her speak? Well, Heather tells the story well on her blog about the interview.
So, since I didn’t receive an adequate description of what Mommy Blogging is, here is some information and examples I have found for myself by searching on the net:
What IS Mommy Blogging exactly?
I received this definition from CafeMom.com:
As the world’s original social networkers, moms are connecting on shared interests, passions, challenges, and local geography. Moms have created more than 35,000 groups. Popular groups include pregnancy, raising boys, recipe swap, photo moms, and marriage and relationships.
This definition is from TheMomBlogs.com:
Are you a mom who blogs? Then you’ve come to the right place. If not, what are you waiting for?
Blogging is fun, it’s a great way to be creative, to let loose and to connect with other moms. We suggest getting at free blog at MomsBuzz.com - the blog site just for moms. New to blogs? What’s a blog you ask…..blog:
Definition: an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page. Example: Typically updated daily, blogs often reflect the personality of the author. Etymology: shortened form of Weblog Usage: blog, blogged, blogging v, blogger n
What are the Mommy Blogs like?
So basically what I’ve learned from the above definitions is Mommy Blogging is a gathering of Mom’s who work from home - who are trying to either build an income from their blogs or engage in a community of other women with similar interests in common environments (at home with kids).
Well that makes sense. Moms need to have a place to vent and someone to relate to - what better way than in a community of other women at the convenience of the internet through a Blog! I’m not a mommy yet (unless you count my 2 cats as my kids which they practically are) but as soon as I have a child you can bet that I’ll add myself to groups like CafeMom!
