Free KFC Coupon Rain Check

For those of you who were smart, you used the coupon right away. For the rest of us who forgot and then remembered and swiftly drove to KFC to redeem our coupon… instead of being handed our warm meal that was SUCH a good deal – we were handed a slip of paper with this message:

We are so sorry, but due to the overwhelming response to our FREE Kentucky Grilled Chicken meal coupon, we can no longer redeem the free coupon at this time. But we will honor our commitment to giving you a free Kentucky Grilled Chicken meal. Please visit a participating KFC restaurant for a rain check form. Complete the form, attach your original coupon, and give it to the KFC restaurant manager or postmark per the form’s instructions, by May 19, 2009, and we’ll send you a rain check for your free Kentucky Grilled Chicken meal at a later date, plus a free Pepsi with our compliments. Your participating KFC restaurant will provide you with the form you need. Please note that the redemption periods of the rain checks will vary. All other terms and conditions of the original free Kentucky Grilled Chicken coupon will apply. Thank you for your understanding,

The first thoughts that run through my mind is [as if] KFC is saying…

Dear Customers,

We had no idea that offering a FREE meal to our customers would create such an overwhelming response. We knew that we would hit the majority of all our consumers by advertising on the Oprah Winfrey Show and Oprah.com… but MILLIONS?! WOW, we had no clue that we’d be sold out so fast. It’s as if the whole world watches the Oprah Show! Go figure!

Well, to save our butts, we’ll offer a “rain check” without a date specified on when you will get the meal we promised. I mean, what else can we do – we didn’t know we’d be out of chickens to cook. But – good news, you now know that we are finally offering a healthy dish at KFC. Woo hoo!

I feel bad for the company. I mean, we’re all trying to sell something in hopes that people will stick around. But, now people are turned off because KFC didn’t keep to their word. Although FREE promised someday is better than never. Dang! I just wish we had gone over to KFC right away! Oh well…
