Pressing Forward

Great news – and I HIGHLY recommend people go and speak to a counselor – it is just an AMAZING experience. I always forget how good it feels to speak to a counselor. Speaking to and confiding in my husband is great! But to get a diagnosis of, “Yep  yep, you’re normal!” is SO great to hear from a Medical, Certified Professional!  *Whew!*

Well anyways, wish I could share – but for understandable reason’s I can’t share ALL the amazing things… but I can share some in general…

So far she doesn’t think I have Clinical Depression, or any of the ‘manic’ sort like Bi-Polar (thank goodness!). She feels that I am more of the Melancholic Depression Artist. She went into more detail and also felt that we’ll learn more and solidify as we move forward.

She gave me some assignments to do over this next week that include allowing myself to be down when I’m down – even if it’s for 3 days. That there’s nothing bad about it – but to input the energy into Creativity. I have some art assignments and poetry assignments to do!

She also gave me some AMAZING tools to use when I resort to feelings reaching back to my Eating Disorder habits. For instance, I can lick all the sugar off a donut, as many donuts as I want – I  just can’t consume the donut. That I am to not deprive myself of what I’d like – but approach it differently — COOL! ;)

So, stuff like that was spoken of in detail and LOTS of awesome lessons learned. It’s amazing, I roll through stuff like this in my head, but speaking aloud to someone who’s been through helping lots of ‘me’s‘ and knows what works, what doesn’t, how to approach this and how to prevent that is just… a breath of fresh air knowing I’m on the path to a better, stronger and wiser me :) I recommend this kind of treatment to EVERYONE! All the “normal” and [think they are] “crazy” people. :D

I believe that God places people (a.k.a. Angels) into our lives at just the right time and in just the right places as long as we are striving to keep Him in our lives at all times.

Don’t give up!

    Hi Becky! Spencer and I were just reading your blog and talking about counseling. Spence has been telling me about Dr. Martin Seligman, the founder of a method called “Positive Psychology.” You should check out his website. I think it would be beneficial. He is the director of University of Pennsylvania’s Positive Psychology. It is an amazing concept that I think you will enjoy. Spence says to register and take his surveys and self-examinations.

    We hope things are going well for you and Clark!

    Take care!

    @Steph

    Very cool. I registered and took the CES-D Questionnaire (Depression Test). I scored 43. The results said:

    “If you scored from 0 to 9, you are in the nondepressed range, below the mean of American adults; 10 to 15 puts you in the mildly depressed range; and 16 to 24 puts you in the moderately depressed range. If you scored over 24, you are in the severely depressed range.”

    dun dun DUN! Good thing I’m seeking help eh? ;)

    Thanks for the advise guys! I feel the love ♥ :)
